ABOV Semiconductor Launches High-Performance MCU Based on 28nm Process

ABOV Semiconductor targets premium appliance and industrial markets with new 28nm high-performance MCU.


ABOV Semiconductor announced on the 23rd that it has officially launched the 'A34G43A series,' a 32-bit general-purpose MCU (Microcontroller Unit) using a 28nm eFlash process. This product is the first baseline model of 'AZPro,' a high-performance MCU brand introduced under the company's new vision: "Global Top Edge AI MCU Innovator.


In the home appliance market, it has been common to install multiple chips for different roles, such as temperature control, display, main control, and water purification functions. However, as the number of MCUs per product increases—especially in premium appliances—the burden of component supply and inventory management has grown. Consequently, there is rapidly expanding demand to integrate these functions into a single chip or a small number of chips. This shift has intensified the need for finer process transitions to achieve higher integration and performance in MCUs.


The A34G43A series is designed to meet this demand by integrating high-performance peripherals, allowing real-time control functions to be implemented on a single chip. Equipped with two 3-phase PWM modules and three 12-bit high-speed ADCs with a total of 24 channels, it is engineered for applications requiring precise simultaneous control of two inverter motors or concurrent motor control and Power Factor Correction (PFC). The processor is based on the Arm Cortex-M4F, operating at up to 200MHz, suitable for industrial-grade requirements.


Communication capabilities have also been enhanced. It supports various interfaces, including up to 13 UARTs, 14 SPIs, CAN-FD, and QSPI. Regarding security and system stability, it features a built-in AES-128 hardware security module and a dual-bank flash structure to support Over-the-Air (OTA) firmware updates. This allows for stable firmware updates and data protection even while the system is running.


ABOV Semiconductor plans to actively target sectors where high-performance real-time control is essential, such as premium appliances, industrial PLCs, building automation, and motor control systems. Based on the AZPro platform, the company intends to sequentially release higher-end models with enhanced computing performance and peripheral functions. In the long term, it aims to expand its application range into high-reliability and functional safety fields, including automotive MCUs.
